3 Chord Rock and Roll

It’s amazing how many rock songs are based around 3 chords. It really doesn’t matter which decade you choose, you can find 1000’s of them. From early Elvis to The Black Keys, you only need to know a handful of guitar chords. (Tons of pop, country, folk and blues music is also based around 3 chords.)

Below are two of examples – Louie Louie (1960’s) and What I like About You (1980’s). I’ve also included a chord chart if you haven’t learned these chords yet.

1. Memorize the chords.

2. Memorize the strum pattern. (Listen to the song for the rhythm)

3. Try putting the strum pattern with the chords. (Slowly at first)
